Split Rock Arts Program, University of Minnesota
Digital Nature Photography
This week-long course touches on basically everything an advanced amateur or professional nature photographer needs to know to capture and master great images. The group will be lead to several wonderful locations for VERY early morning photography (get up around 4:30). The middle of the days will be filled with lectures on photography and Photoshop CS4, working on your images in CS4 with Craig’s help, and critiques. This is a very intense workshop at an advanced level both in techniques and aesthetics. If you are looking to propel your image-making to a professional level, this course is for you. If you just like being out in the woods with your camera, and are satisfied with what you are doing using Elements, this course may not be for you.

Craig Blacklock's - Digital Nature Photography
Dates: 08/15/10 to 08/20/10
Class Description: Through lectures, field trips and computer sessions Craig will help you expand your digital photography skills. Craig is a seasoned workshop instructor, able to gently guide you to the realization of your personal vision. Each day will start with a morning photography session, at times using stable, double kayaks. Later, you will edit the morning's work (bring your own computer). A discussion of your images will be followed by a presentation of the next topic. Subjects will include: Equipment selection; Basic image management; Focus and depth-of-field (how to expand digitally); Exposure (how to expand digitally); Landscapes; Close-ups; and Wildlife. This is a very comprehensive course. One former participant in Craig's workshop stated she learned more in one week than she had in 5 years of college specializing in photography. It is designed for advanced amateur and professional participants, who wish to take their photography to the next level.

Craig Blacklock's - Autumn Color Photography
Dates: 10/11/10 to 10/15/10
Class Description: Fall is the climax of the year as far as most nature photographers are concerned. This workshop will help you find great images along the coast and in the forests of Madeline Island, and guide you in your techniques to make sure the images you go home with live up to your memories. Compared to Digital Nature Photography offered in August, this workshop will be less intensive and much less technical, with more time spent in the field. However, Craig will always be available to answer technical questions, whether in the field with the cameras, or working in Photoshop back in the classroom. This workshop is open to photographers at any level using digital SLR cameras and Photoshop CS4.
